THE PROCESSION BIOGRAPHY

The Procession unite nations as well as dreams in a lineup consisting of two Yanks and a Brit. Political commentaries aside, this pairing of U.S. and U.K. delves into a rich history of pop sensibility on both sides of the Atlantic.

The American contingent of The Procession are J. Paul Zawacki and John Schreffler. Born and raised in Michigan, the two first met in an eighth grade catechism class that they were both forced into attending. Becoming quick friends, they soon found themselves making music together in an experimental rock group that would span the entirety of their high school years.

In the autumn of 2003, the two friends embarked on a new venture, initially to make a pop songwriting demo that Zawacki intended to use to get into music school. Employing an old eight-track machine and several months' worth of Monday nights, they emerged from Schreffler's Michigan basement with a five song E.P. and a completely new musical calling.

One year later, the duo signed on with L.A.-based label, Retone Records (formerly Leftwing Recordings), and their current publisher, Peer Music.
They also managed to complete their thrilling, first full-length effort, Musique Magnifique--the sound and style of which draw heavily upon pop's rich melodic past, often conjuring up images of the songwriting and production of early Beatles, E.L.O., The Beach Boys, Squeeze, and even Weezer.

"For this record, we really tried to create the type of pop that we wished we were hearing on the radio," comments Zawacki, "Something explicitly fun, melodic, and upbeat, but also implicitly intricate and clever."

Having relocated to Los Angeles in 2005, Messieurs Schreffler and Zawacki also sought out like-minded musicians to create the perfect pop outfit for showcasing their songs. Coincidentally, they met former Pure Reason Revolution guitarist, Greg Jong, an Englishman who had recently relocated to the Golden State. From the first rehearsal, the shared musical bond was obvious, and the melody and harmony that ensued was sweeter than candy...or do we mean "sweets"?

Now, The Procession are bringing their cleverly infectious music to the globe. Having most recently signed a deal with Nude/V2 in the U.K., they will be releasing their first single in the U.K. in late-January, with additional singles and Musique Magnifique to follow soon after.
